If you have never used skincare actives with ingredients like glycolic and salicylic acids, then your skin is missing out on a truly revealing experience!
A basic skincare regimen normally consists of a three-step process of cleansing, toning and moisturising, and when you are in your late teens or very early twenties that might suffice.
As you age, your skin will slowly but surely age along with you. From your 20's, fat loss in the face will begin along with a drop in collagen and elastin production revealing more fine lines and wrinkles with some sagging areas by the late 30’s and beyond.
Depending on your lifestyle, how your skin ages can also depend on factors such as smoking, drinking alcohol and sun exposure, which are all known to cause premature ageing.
But it’s not all bad news!
The earlier you start with skincare actives; namely glycolic and salicylic acids, in conjunction with potent antioxidants; particularly vitamin A (retinol), retinoid derivatives and vitamin C “The brightening ingredient”, the better equipped you will be to preserve your skin’s appearance for longer.
Salicylic Acid (Beta Hydroxy Acid) belongs to a group of compounds called Salicylates which are derived from the Willow Bark tree and is primarily used in acne preparations, but it’s also an excellent ingredient for anti-ageing (particularly when paired with glycolic acid). It removes dead skin cells, refines the skin’s tone, decreases pigmentation and stimulates collagen production which helps skin fill in acne scars helping to create a smooth and even surface. For pimple prevention, it can gain access into pores and successfully clear bacteria, help eliminate inflammation, speed up the skins healing response and prevent further blemishes.
Glycolic acid (Alpha Hydroxy Acid), derived from sugar cane, is best known for its anti-ageing properties as it removes dead skin cells, clears blemishes and resurfaces textured areas of skin which decreases the appearance of lines and wrinkles. It works to diminish pigmentation marks, stimulates skin building block collagen with its production, which keeps skin firmer and youthful for longer and gives skin a fresher, rejuvenated quality.
Skincare actives are also dependant on the product having the correct pH level to even allow exfoliation to occur, you should be mindful of this aspect when shopping for a skincare product that contains these acids, particularly when buying over the counter products, as it is not always apparent on the product or product information what the pH level is.
Combine these two wonderful acids together and you truly have an anti-ageing and clear complexion superstar formula. Our newest product, Skin Brilliance Exfoliating Liquid, combines both these essential skincare ingredients in an alcohol free, botanically infused formula. Its low pH of 3.5 allows for effective exfoliation to occur easily bringing about skin positive changes, revealing fresh, glowing new skin that is blemish free. Now that is brilliant!
